This device is used to enable an automatic film manufacturing line to “stitch” together continuous and intermittent transportation of the film. During the intermittent motion required by the process, film is being accumulated in this device with the speed and tension controlled by a motor, and then the film is released when it is needed, also with controlled speed and tension. Challenge – tight packaging of the accumulator in a limited space by the customer request and precise speed and tension control. Solution – accumulator within accumulator. We used electrical variable speed control with the speed feedback from encoder and tension feedback from load cell.
